“Bike Baton Rouge” Launches an Official Baton Rouge Bike Map

Last month, Bike Baton Rouge released an official bike map to help local residents select safe bike paths away from traffic congestion and dangerous biking areas.

The interactive map was created by Bike Baton Rouge members and volunteers, many of them being daily cyclists of the designated routes on the map. The specific routes were carefully selected for being low traffic and low stress, creating an overall safer and pleasant atmosphere for bicyclists. The bike map links local neighborhoods together in easy, short distances, as well as other destinations.

In addition to supplying safe routes, the map updates any road changes or trail conditions and creates alternative path suggestions to blocked routes.

At Gauthier Amedee, we want to ensure the safety of all Louisiana bicyclists. In order to avoid bicycle accidents, keep in mind the following tips next time you hop on your bike, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA):

-Be safe. Always wear a well-fitted helmet and be sure to cross the street at the designated crosswalk. Look ahead, center, left and right.

-Be attentive. Be aware of vehicles on the road, nearby pedestrians and other cyclists. Focus on the road or path conditions in which you are traveling on.

-Be smart. Only one person should be on a bike at a time. If you are traveling in a group, ride in a single file line. Keep your hands on handlebars and feet on pedals at all times as well.

-Be visible. Make sure you are visible to motorists if you are riding at night by wearing reflective clothing. Be sure to ride on the right side of the road- never against traffic.

-Be proactive. Plan your route ahead of time. Avoid busy roads and be aware of the local bicycle laws of the town you are in.
