Over 300 people came together in the stands of Marksville High School’s football field to show support with a candlelight vigil for five children who lost their lives in Florida. The fatal crash—which involved a passenger van, one mid-sized sedan, and two tractor-trailers—occurred on southbound Interstate 75 near Gainesville. All told, seven lost their lives in the accident.
A Tragic Loss of Life
In addition to the children, the drivers of the two tractor-trailers involved in the crash died as a result of injuries suffered. Officials from the Florida Highway Patrol have identified the children as:
- Cierra Bordelan, 9
- Joel Cloud, 14
- Brieana Descant, 10
- Cara Descant, 13
- Jeremiah Warren, 14
Additional Details Emerge
Another local news source indicates that the five children were traveling with a group from the Avoyelles House of Mercy church in Marksville, Louisiana. According to investigators, a passenger sedan and tractor-trailer collided on Interstate 75. Both vehicles crashed through a guardrail and entered the southbound lanes of the highway—where they struck another tractor-trailer and the church van.
